Announcement Banner
Your best new feature deserves more than a changelog entry nobody scrolls to. Shipstar reads the commits from the period, picks the single most impactful user-facing change, and writes a headline, a one-sentence benefit, and a call-to-action for a bar at the top of your site. You review it, publish it, and the banner on your site updates — every week or every month, without anyone touching the page again.
One change, chosen for you
A banner has room for exactly one message, so Shipstar doesn't summarize the period — it ranks it. From the commits and pull requests in the window it selects the change a visitor would most want to know about: a new capability first, then a meaningful improvement. It writes a headline of at most 80 characters, a single sentence on the benefit, and a short button label, all in your project's voice and content guidelines. Marketing-site tweaks, refactors, and CI changes never make the cut unless you tell it otherwise.
Embed once, stays current
Exactly one banner is live per project. When you publish a new one it replaces the old one under the same public key, so the script tag you paste once keeps showing whatever is current. The embed mounts a sticky bar at the top of the page — or inline where you place it — matches your site with two CSS variables, and lets visitors dismiss it; a dismissed banner stays hidden for them until the next one goes live. Prefer no client-side JavaScript? Fetch the live banner from the API and render it in your own markup; a 404 simply means nothing is live.
Click-through that points somewhere useful
Every banner links to a page you choose: a launch post, pricing, docs, or a feature page. Leave the link empty and Shipstar fills it in at publish time with your changelog page, or the changelog permalink for that period, so the call-to-action always lands on the detail behind the headline. Only http(s) links are ever rendered.
On a weekly or monthly schedule
Set the banner up as a recurring schedule and each run covers the commits since the last one — a week for a weekly banner, a month for a monthly one. Drafts go through the same review queue as everything else (or auto-publish when you turn review off for banners), and an optional take-down after 7, 14, or 30 days keeps a one-off announcement from overstaying. Shipstar runs one on its own home page.
Why teams choose Announcement Banner
- Turn the week's biggest change into a headline visitors actually see
- Paste one script tag; every published banner appears with no site change
- Link to the page you choose, or let Shipstar link the changelog for you
- Keep it fresh automatically with a weekly or monthly schedule
