Connect Slack to post release updates automatically

Maintained in our help center; this page is the canonical copy.

Shipstar can push any piece of generated content directly to a Slack channel, so your team and users hear about every release without you copying and pasting anything. Once Slack is connected as a destination, you can send content manually when you publish or have it delivered automatically on a schedule.

Connect your Slack workspace

  1. In the dashboard, open Destinations and find the Slack tile.
  2. Click Connect and complete the Slack OAuth flow to authorize Shipstar to post to your workspace.
  3. Once connected, choose a default channel where content will be posted.
  4. Look for the check badge on the Slack tile — it confirms the destination is configured and ready.
  5. Send content to Slack

Shipstar supports two ways to deliver content to Slack:

    • On publish — when you approve and publish any piece of content (changelogs, blog posts, social posts, release notes emails, and every other content type), Shipstar automatically posts it to your connected Slack channel.
    • On a schedule — when you set up a recurring calendar event, choose Slack as the delivery target in the schedule dialog. Each time the schedule runs and generates content, it posts the result to Slack without any manual step.

    Failed deliveries and retries

If a scheduled Slack delivery fails — for example, because the bot was removed from the channel — Shipstar sends you an email notification so you know immediately. You can retry any failed delivery on demand directly from the dashboard rather than waiting for the next scheduled occurrence. If Shipstar hasn't been invited to the target channel, retrying after an /invite will pick up right where it left off.
